It’s Easy to Go Green! Here Are Some Family Friendly Tips!

It’s Easy to Go Green! Here Are Some Family Friendly Tips! Organic isn’t just a buzzword or hype, it’s a way of life that benefits the health of your family, your home and the environment as well. Let 2016 be the year you make small changes that make a big difference! It’s not hard, it just takes a shift in perspective and a few new habits.

At Bayes, we want to keep life easy for you without compromising quality. So here are some easy to do, family friendly green living tips just for you!

Conserve Water
Start simple. Start with conservation. No matter where you are in the world, it’s good to be conscious of water conservation and preserve the water we have. Instead of allowing rainwater to flow into the ground, you can develop a rainwater collection system and use it to water your garden or your lawn. This saves you money by allowing you to water your landscaping without using your house spigot. You can save the dishwater from when you do the dishes and use that to water the lawn or clean up accessories around the home. Conserve water and you will save money and help your community.

Save Energy (Save Money Too!)
There are many things you can do to conserve energy in your home. Always be sure to turn off lights and appliances when they are not in use. Invest in new doors and windows when the old ones have become drafty and unable to help regulate the temperature of your home. If your home appliances are 10 years old or older, then replace them with more energy-efficient models. You may also want to think about adding alternative energy sources such as solar panels and windmills. An extreme measure is purchasing an electric car and charging station. These alternative energy sources will reduce your reliance on electricity that is generated using fossil fuels, and it will also help to lower your monthly energy bills.

Compost Your Food Waste

Turn those old food scraps into fertilizer or even a material that can help repair damaged parts of your lawn. You can also include lawn clippings and leaves in your composting system to create a comprehensive source of organic material. You can create a compost pile in your backyard, or you can invest in a more advanced composting system that will create the materials you need for your lawn and garden. More info on composting HERE.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Whether you are reusing items in your home, using paper as wrapping paper, recycling can happen in many ways! Recycling in the home starts with finding out where you can take old newspapers and cardboard in your community to get it processed into new products. Many communities have recycling programs that make it easy for residents to put their old paper and cardboard to good use. If your community does not have an official paper recycling program, then check with a local church or civic group to see if they are running one. You can also recycle old plastic and glass food containers or reuse them by washing them out and using them as storage containers around the house. Before you throw anything out in your home, make sure that you cannot find another use for it and reduce the amount of garbage that goes into your local landfill.

Green Cleaning

Cleaning green is about using supplies that are safe for the environment and safe for the family. Home cleaning supplies that use harsh chemicals can get into the water table around your home and contaminate your property, that damage your health and home. Instead of using those harsh cleaning chemicals, you should use more environmentally friendly cleaning solutions. There are many different kinds of cleaning solutions you can make from household items that have no dangerous chemicals at all. By learning to make our own safe cleaning solutions at home, you are teaching your children a skill that they can use when they grow up to save the environment and keep their children safe as well.

This is where Bayes comes in.  We know that you have a lot of options for better green living, and we want to make sure it's as simple as possible. This is why we developed our line of organic cleaning products. We want you and your home to be as healthy as possible. Stop by today and see what we have made for you!

How to Boost Your Immune System in the Throes of Winter

How to Boost Your Immune System in the Throes of WinterWinter is a fun and beautiful time to enjoy. So don’t let germs and virus steel the joy away from you and your family. If you’re ready to resist pesky sickness and boost your immune system to super strength, you’re going to love these quick healthy tips!

Be Active!
Nothing boost the immune system like staying active. Get outside and go for a run! Hike. Swim indoors or do some yoga. The point is, keep moving. Remind your body of it's power.

Fire Tea!
This one’s simple, delicious and comes with many benefits on top of keeping you warm. Just pour yourself a mug of hot (not boiling) water. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon into it. Add honey or stevia to taste. Then add cayenne pepper. How much you add is up to you, but you do want to be able to taste it. The combination will not only boost your immune system but will also help you stay warm, thanks to the cayenne increasing circulation all over your body.

Warm Feet!
Here’s a really easy one. Did you know that cayenne works on the skin too? Just grab your socks and carefully sprinkle it into the toe and foot part of your sock. The powdered pepper will be absorbed into your feet through your pores and keep your feet warm. Be warned, don’t put it in your gloves. You don’t want the pepper going from your fingers to your eyes. OUCH.

Sweat is Good!
Bring the heat in through your shower. Run a hot steamy shower and seal up the bathroom to keep in the heat. Then add a few sprays of a Eucalyptus Shower Mist into your shower. The Eucalyptus will help boost circulation (keeping your muscles warm internally), cleanse your respiratory system and if you go with the Eucamint, the mint will leave you extra invigorated and boost your energy.

Stay Warm!
Wear more layers. Yes, it’s that simple. Invest in a thin yet warm set of under layers to wear under your normal clothes. Then, lower the heat in your home. Keeping the heat to high adds too much contrast to your body temperature and stresses the immune system. Teach your body to acclimate rather that constantly be faced with shock.

Clean and Toxin Free!
Toxins in the air and in the home, enter our bodies through our pores and in through our lungs. To keep a strong immune system and fight the germs and viruses, keep toxins away from you and your family.  This means staying away from toxic air fresheners, bleach and other harsh chemicals as you keep your house clean, fresh and germ free. Make sure to open the doors and windows each day, even for ten minutes, to kick the stagnant air out and welcome the fresh air in.
Keeping the immune system strong in the winter isn’t as hard as you think. With the right nourishment, protection and non-toxic cleaning, your winter can be a healthy one.

How to Care for Your Granite Counter Tops Without Ruining Them.

How to Care for Your Granite Counter Tops Without Ruining Them.Granite countertops are for the wise quality seekers. You shop around for well
made products that serve you well and are going to last. The last thing you want to do is invest your well earned money into a great product like granite counter tops, and ruin them because you’re using the wrong cleaning products on them.

Standard cleaning products contain harsh and abrasive ingredients, including bleach. Bleach will sometimes say that it’s safe for properly sealed countertops, but that’s debatable. It is acidic and will break down the sealant over time. Also, if there is a break in the seal somewhere, the bleach can make it’s way into the compromised spot and corrode the makings of the granite.

Additionally, using harsh or abrasive chemicals is often a violation to the granite company’s warranty, meaning your mistake could really end up costing you in the end.

How to Care for Your Granite Counter Tops Without Ruining Them.So now it’s clear, don’t use harsh or abrasive cleaners and sponges. Windex, acidic cleaners like vinegar, lemon, lime, or anything with ammonia or bleach. Frequent use of these chemicals will dull and weaken the sealant over time. Basically, the harsher the cleaner, the quicker it will break down the sealant.

Make sure your granite countertop is sealed. While granite is a very hard surface and less porous than marble, unsealed or weakly sealed granite will soak up oils, spills, and stains. To check whether your granite is sealed, leave a few drops of water on the surface. If it beads up, you have a secure seal. If after a few minutes the water has soaked into the granite, then it’s time to reseal the stone.
Wipe up spills as soon as you notice them, preferably with a gentle and soft fibered pad or towel, with warm water and a mild or gentle dish soap.
All that’s needed to keep your counters clean and cared for?

That’s really all!

Granite and natural stone countertops have become the mark of a luxurious modern home but proper care is vital for preserving the original look of your wise investment.

How To Clean Halloween Costume & Makeup Messes Easily & Naturally

How To Clean Halloween Costume & Makeup Messes Easily & NaturallyDon’t let Halloween messes bring you down. Feel free to have fun and enjoy the wild rumpus, knowing that between Bayes Natural cleaners and our special tips below, you’ll be able to handle just about any costume, sugar or party mess that comes your way!

  • Sticky Candies: Mix 1 teaspoon of neutral detergent and 1 cup of lukewarm water. Blot the stain using this solution and a cloth. For melted candy, blot with a mixture of one-third vinegar and two-thirds water. Finish by blotting with water, then scrape off the candy.
  • Hair gel and Hair Spray: That slicked back vampire hairstyle stayed in place all night but you don’t want it stuck on your clothing!  Before washing, scrape away any remaining product, then spray on stain remover and then wash in hot water.
  • Chocolate: Carefully scrape off as much of the chocolate as possible without grinding the stain deeper into the fabric. Apply stain remover and wash. Wash again if necessary with fabric- or color-safe bleach.
  • Pumpkin: Before you start carving your design, be sure lay down newspapers under the pumpkin for easy cleanup. Too late? That’s fine. Just use a spoon to scrape off as much as possible, then scrub with Bayes Organic Dishwashing Solution and water
  • Silly String: Most will come off your house with soap and water, but you can remove any residue with a cotton ball or swab.
  • Shaving cream: Don’t wait to clean this one! Most people are surprised to find out that shaving cream can leave stains on outdoor areas and items! Luckily, you’ll be able to get it off easily with a hose and microfiber cloth. If your car is the victim, though, you should have it professionally washed as it can damage the paint.
  • Toilet paper: Make sure to clean up toilet paper before it starts raining or before sprinklers go off, as wet toilet paper is a nightmare to clean. If dry toilet paper is high up in a tree, use a ladder and a stick wrapped in sticky duct tape to reach it.
  • Lipstick and oil-based Halloween makeup: For fabring, test a small amount of makeup remover or rubbing alcohol on inside seam to test the fabric to make sure the fabric won’t be affected. If the color hasn’t changed after 10 minutes, proceed by using a washcloth to dampen the stain with remover or alcohol. Pat the stain with a dry paper towel until it no longer picks up any makeup. Treat with Bayes Stain Remover  and wash in warm water. Re-treat and rewash if the stain remains.
  • Bubble Gum: Rub an ice cube over the stain until it freezes and hardens. Scrape off or peel as much of the hardened gum as you can without rubbing it deeper into the fabric. Dab with dry-cleaning solvent if you have some on hand; otherwise, apply stain remover and wash.

Halloween is meant to be a time of fun and craziness! Let Bayes be the one to save the day! Be safe, have fun and enjoy the ride!

What about the inside of the oven? Well, we’ve got you taken care of there too! In fact, you likely already have what you need!  (Thanks to TipHero for the steps below!)

Here’s what you need:
-Water
-Spray bottle
-Baking soda
-A rag
-Vinegar
-A small bowl

And here’s what you do:
  1. First, remove the oven racks.
  2. Mix a couple of spoonfuls of baking soda with some water in the bowl. Create a paste that will be easily spread on oven surfaces.
  3. Spread the paste on the inside of the oven (baking soda will turn brown). Let it sit overnight (at least 12 hours).
  4. The next day, take a wet rag and wipe out as much of the baking soda paste as you can.
  5. Put some vinegar in a spray bottle and spritz on surfaces where you still see baking soda residue. Then wipe with a wet rag.
  6. Put the racks back in the oven and turn the oven onto a very low temperature for 15-20 minutes to let dry.
To clean the oven window:
  1. Make another paste out of baking soda and water.
  2. Apply the paste directly to the window and let it sit for 30 minutes.
  3. Use a clean rag to wipe the window clean.
And with that, you’re done. Of course, do the insides before you do the outside. You want to be able to do the outside and walk away knowing your kitchen is at it’s finest.

We are dedicated to bringing you the best tips and products we can. That’s why we at Bayes developed a full line of environmentally friendly, organic cleaning products safe for the whole family and home.
