What about the inside of the oven? Well, we’ve got you taken care of there too! In fact, you likely already have what you need!  (Thanks to TipHero for the steps below!)

Here’s what you need:
-Water
-Spray bottle
-Baking soda
-A rag
-Vinegar
-A small bowl

And here’s what you do:
  1. First, remove the oven racks.
  2. Mix a couple of spoonfuls of baking soda with some water in the bowl. Create a paste that will be easily spread on oven surfaces.
  3. Spread the paste on the inside of the oven (baking soda will turn brown). Let it sit overnight (at least 12 hours).
  4. The next day, take a wet rag and wipe out as much of the baking soda paste as you can.
  5. Put some vinegar in a spray bottle and spritz on surfaces where you still see baking soda residue. Then wipe with a wet rag.
  6. Put the racks back in the oven and turn the oven onto a very low temperature for 15-20 minutes to let dry.
To clean the oven window:
  1. Make another paste out of baking soda and water.
  2. Apply the paste directly to the window and let it sit for 30 minutes.
  3. Use a clean rag to wipe the window clean.
And with that, you’re done. Of course, do the insides before you do the outside. You want to be able to do the outside and walk away knowing your kitchen is at it’s finest.

We are dedicated to bringing you the best tips and products we can. That’s why we at Bayes developed a full line of environmentally friendly, organic cleaning products safe for the whole family and home.

Don't Miss This! Quick Money Saving Tips to a Greener Kitchen!

Don't Miss This! Quick Money Saving Tips to a Greener Kitchen! We all love being in the kitchen, mainly because that's where the food is! But did you know that the kitchen is one of the easiest rooms in the house to 'go green' and save money? If you've been wanting to have a more energy efficient and earth friendly home, the kitchen is a great place to start!

One of the reasons that it's so easy to make an impactful difference on the overall energy-efficiency of your kitchen is that some of your home's largest appliances are located there. Here are a few quick tips to help you know you're getting the most out your kitchen appliances and being earth conscious in the process!

Dishwasher:

First, make sure that you only run the dishwasher when it's full. If you've only got one plate or a few forks in there, it's most likely going to save more water to wash those by hand. Secondly, don't pre-rinse your dishes in the sink. This step was necessary in the past but most modern dishwashers are powerful enough that they can remove food residue without pre-rinsing, so skipping this step will save you a lot of water and energy (not to mention time!).

Refrigerator:

Even if you went out of the way to purchase an energy-efficient fridge, you might be sabotaging your decision by not using it properly. One common mistake is setting the temperature too low. You can check your owner's manual to determine the optimal temperature range (usually around 36°-38°F), but if you notice that some of your food is super cold or even frozen, you should turn your temp down a bit or reserve those "cold zones" for more spoilage-prone foods. Remember that for every degree below 38°F, your unit consumes 5% more energy; so if you have it set to 36°F now and it's too cold, consider raising it a few degrees. Another easy tip is to use glass tupperware. Glass is not only more long-lasting than plastic or foil, but it also provides a better insulating barrier that keeps food and beverages colder.

Compost:

One of the best ways you can transform your edible waste into valuable soil is by composting it. Composting does take some time and patience but there are many products out there to simplify the process. If you're planning to compost indoors, try an odor-minimizing, compact composter. Once you have the hang of it, you may even be able to use the resulting nutrient-rich soil to grow your own food, which will help make your kitchen and cooking even greener.

Green Cleaners:
Using organic and biodegradable cleaning supplies in the kitchen keeps our water sources clean and our health as well. We are in the kitchen so often. It's important that we avoid chemicals in general, but especially where we are preparing our food. That's why at Bayes, we've developed a line of organic cleaning supplies - including our granite counter top cleaner. You have the benefit of clean granite counter tops as well as knowing your family won't get any chemicals on those freshly chopped apple slices!  For bigger messes, you can always use the simplicity of baking soda and white vinegar!

There are always great and easy options when wanting to have a greener and affordable kitchen and home. Bayes wants to help you live clean and healthy in every way we can. Please visit us today for more information!

The Best Green Cleaning Tools No Kitchen Should Be Without!

The Best Green Cleaning Tools No Kitchen Should Be Without!Having a toxin free home is important to your health, which is why you choose cleaning products that are organic and free of dangerous chemicals. But why stop there? The tools you use to clean your kitchen are just as important to keep an eye on as the ingredients your home is cleaned with.  At Bayes, we provide organic home cleaning supplies and we proudly support those that are committed with us, to caring for the health of our homes and lives.

We wanted to share this great information from Mother Earth Living and hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

From all of us to your home, here are the best green cleaning tools no kitchen should be without!

We do our best to avoid hazardous household cleaners, but what about the integrity of the tools we use to clean our homes? Unfortunately, most of them are cheap, disposable pieces of plastic manufactured with no regard for the health of our homes or our planet. Next time you find yourself in need of a cleaning tool, opt for one of these more health-conscious and eco-friendly choices.

No (Plastic) Scrubs
If you haven’t done it already, make the switch to biodegradable sponges and scrubbers. Conventional neon-colored sponges are made of oil-based, landfill-clogging plastic. Cellulose sponges, on the other hand, are made of compostable plant-based materials, and are available unbleached and undyed. Twist Loofah Sponge and TwistScour Pads, $1 to $5.
Tip: Toss sponges in the dishwasher or a pot of boiling water to disinfect.

Helping Hands
All-natural homemade cleaners are great alternatives to common chemical-laden varieties, but even natural ingredients such as hydrogen peroxide and essential oils can be irritating. Open windows to ventilate rooms while you clean, and wear gloves. If You Care Household Gloves are made from Forest Stewardship Council-certified latex, and the rubber harvesters receive a fair wage. If You CareHousehold Gloves, $3;
Tip: To make your own hand exfoliant, mix two tablespoons olive oil with kosher salt in the palms of your hands and rub.

Dust Buster
Does your vacuum suck (in the pejorative sense)? If you have pets, large area rugs or wall-to-wall carpeting, consider investing in an energy-efficient vacuum with a HEPA filter. HEPA filters pick up tiny particulates—dust mites, pet dander and other allergy triggers—that other vacuums leave behind. We like bagless models (less waste) with lifetime washable filters. Dyson DC24 All Floors, $400.
Tip: Empty canisters or change bags outside—and do it often.

Paper Trail
Paper manufacturing is the third-largest user of fossil fuels worldwide. Curb your consumption by replacing paper towels with an arsenal of reusable dish cloths. Stash dirty rags in a bin under the sink until it’s time to do the wash, but make sure they’ve had a chance to dry out first to avoid mold. Full Circle Tidy organic cotton dish cloths, three for $6.
Tip: Repurpose old clothes and towels as cleaning rags.

Clean Sweep
Streamline your collection of brooms, mops and floor-cleaning gadgets into one space-saving, sustainable workhorse. The Cradle to Cradle-certified eclipse collection includes a pole made from 30 percent recycled aluminum with three interchangeable heads: broom (made from recycled soda bottles), mop (made from 30 percent soy) and microfiber duster (traps dust without chemicals). eclipse collection, $8 to $30.
Tip: For a natural floor cleaner that smells great, combine ¼ cup white vinegar with 10 drops lemon oil and 4 drops oregano oil in a bucket of water. (thanks Mother Earth News!)

Bayes loves to be part of your home's health! From our organic granite counter top cleaner to many other products, we hope you enjoy what we have made to make your lives healthier, cleaner and much better!

Have You Stopped To Find Out If Your Christmas Tree Has Been Sprayed With Pesticides?

Have You Stopped To Find Out If Your Christmas Tree Has Been Sprayed With Pesticides? Picking out a Christmas tree is a favorite tradition this time of year. The whole family will likely be involved and have a different opinion about just how big to go! Should it have soft or prickly needles? Is it the right shape? Everyone will have an opinion, but finally you’ll all agree on the perfect one.
Even if you are a family committed to green living, it's easy to forget to consider whether or not your tree has been grown organically. Don't worry, that's normal. Of the 24.5 million real Christmas trees purchased in the U.S. every year, only 1 percent are grown organically. That doesn’t give you very good odds for finding an organic one. And, it likely means the tree in your living room was sprayed with pesticides. Do you really want to breathe that in?

Christmas trees and pesticides

Conventional growers spray a variety of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides on Christmas trees throughout their long life cycle. (It takes a typical Christmas tree 5 to 10 years to grow to maturity!) Many of the pesticides approved for use by the Environmental Protection Agency on your Christmas tree have been linked to cancer, hormonal disruption, neurotoxicity, organ damage, reproductive/birth defects, asthma, and more, according to Beyond Pesticides, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting public health and the environment.
The big but here though is that with zero studies on the effects, there’s no real way to know if residue from pesticides can harm you. Still, for those of us who try to live an organic lifestyle, it would be nice to find a tree that hasn’t been sprayed with chemicals.
Turns out, that’s quite the challenge. Most trees you see at big box stores, city lots or big garden centers are conventionally grown. The majority of the trees have been shipped from big plantations in Oregon, North Carolina, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Washington State, New York or Virginia.

Finding an organic Christmas tree

If you want to find an organic Christmas tree, your best bet is to check with a local grower. Ask how the tree was raised. If you look at tree farms where you can cut your own tree and farmers markets, you’ll also be more likely to find a sustainably-grown tree. Here are a few more resources to help you find an organic Christmas tree:
Beyond PesticidesThis nonprofit group provides some sources for organically-grown Christmas trees as well as up to date information about pesticides.
Green Promise
This website provides a list of organic Christmas tree farms by state.
Local HarvestFind farmers markets, family farms, CSAs and farm stands in your area. Local Harvest also lists sources for organic wreaths.
Bonus: If you do score an organic tree, it likely won’t have been sheared into the conical shape that’s the industry standard for Christmas trees today. Yours might have a more old-fashioned look, with imperfect branches and a more relaxed frame. There’s something quite nice about that though, wouldn’t you say?

Benefits of a real tree

Don’t worry if you already bought a conventional Christmas tree. Real trees (even non-organic ones) are at least a better choice than artificial trees. Real Christmas trees are often grown on land that isn’t suitable for other crops. And while it may seem like an artificial tree is the most sustainable choice because you can use it longer, the average family uses an artificial tree for only six to nine years before throwing it away, where it sits in a landfill and pollutes the environment. If you do have a real tree, don’t forget to reuse it after Christmas. We have some great ideas to reuse your Christmas tree. Most cities also offer curbside pickup for recycling Christmas trees. (Thank you, Organic Authority, for your wealth of information!)
We at Bayes, are committed to your health, which is why we try to keep you properly informed, for your health and the health of those in your homes.  That's also why we've developed our extensive line of organic cleaning supplies, which happen to make great holiday gifts; like our granite counter top cleaner! We are confident that you will find fabulous gifts and a great tree for your green home this Christmas season!
Happy Holidays!

Give Your Kitchen an Eco Makeover With These Easy 7 Steps!

Give Your Kitchen an Eco Makeover With These Easy 7 Steps! It's important to have an eco friendly living space and the kitchen is a great place to start!
We spend so much time and energy use in the kitchen, so giving your kitchen an eco makeover will actually make a significant difference in your contribution to the environment and your health!
Here are your 7 easy steps:
Switch to all eco-friendly cleaners and detergents
For dishwashing detergents, switch to ones that are phosphate-free, or make your own solutions using common household items such as lemon juice and baking soda for cleaning the sink and other parts of the kitchen. You can put it in a spray bottle filled with water. Stop by Bayes, as well for our organic cleaning line, including our granite counter top cleaner and conditioner! Making your own eco friendly cleaning supplies or buying them from a supplier is easy to do and well worth the time and investment!
Audit your units and equipment.
Auditing your units and appliances will not only help you save energy and money - it can also help you get rid of appliances and gadgets that you no longer need. Lean toward products that are made of eco-friendly materials. Support companies that produce kitchenware and products such as cutting boards and food storage containers that are made from totally recycled materials. Cabinets and other kitchen units can also be replaced with more durable ones so they can last longer and can often be found at recycling centers for home improvement.
Go for high energy rating appliances.
If you are considering replacing certain appliances like refrigerators, it is always better to consider the A++-G European Energy Label rating system. Other low energy efficiency rated white goods may be cheaper, but they consume large amounts of electricity. This means that although you save money by purchasing cheap white goods, you’ll end up spending a relatively higher amount in the long run because of high electric consumption. If you don’t want to buy new one, you can either insulate it on the sides or regularly clean the coils at the back so you can keep your refrigerator’s energy consumption to the least amount.
You can also explore other low-energy units such as eco kettles, which boil only the water you need and keep the rest in a tank so it can be used later. It also has the ability to heat water in three different temperatures. So if you need warm water for your herbal tea, you don’t need to waste energy by heating the water to 100°C.
Recondition your oven
Experts suggest the use of convection ovens over conventional ovens. It is due to their ability to circulate the heated air around the food being cooked which takes shorter time and reducing required temperature which tantamount to low energy consumption. On the average, you’ll drop your energy use by about 20%.
Compost and recycle
Another great way to achieve a green kitchen is to make use of a composting and recycling bin. Kitchens can be designed or redesigned in a way that gives it access to a garden compost bin. This way, leftover food can be re-used as fertilizer.
Planning your meals can also help in reducing waste by keeping you from buying food you won’t eat. You can also plan to use leftovers in cooking different food recipes.
Reduce plastic and unnecessary packaging
Instead of using plastic cling wrap and re-sealable bags to store and cover food, you can use lidded containers. You can also try using reusable plastic containers as long as they are not made of harmful chemicals. In this case, refrain from using plastics labeled with recycling codes 3 – 7 as they are less stable. Rather, consider the use of glass jars instead of plastic containers. Gallon-size jars are also great for storing bulk items. Aside from its reusability, it also won’t allow chemicals to leach into your food.
Use dishtowels instead of paper towels
Try to use cloth towels as much as possible. They are inexpensive, washable, and has less carbon footprint.
Give Your Kitchen an Eco Makeover With These Easy 7 Steps!Eat more vegetables
Another easy way to make a kitchen more eco-friendly is to try vegetarian food a little more often. Raising livestock has more destructive impact on the environment than putting up a garden with plants and grains. Besides, all the leftover food can be buried in the compost pit you can use for your garden.

Put some plants inside your kitchen
Plants make homes more cozy and inviting. Not only do plants beautify your kitchen, plants also help regulate carbon emissions from your cooking stove. You can also plant culinary herbs in the windowsill!
In the end, what’s more fulfilling than staying in a clean and environmental-friendly space? Achieving this is now totally possible as you can explore several options to go green. Giving your kitchen an eco makeover certainly takes time, effort and investment, but is totally worth it in the end, both for you and the world! Stop by Bayes and join us in our commitment to a healthier, cleaner kitchen!

Granite Counter Tops: Why They A Great Choice for a Green Kitchen

Granite Counter Tops: Why They A Great Choice for a Green KitchenThere are a lot of choices out there when it comes to counter top options and the information can be overwhelming.  You want something that is environmentally conscious and able to stand the different stressors that kitchen use usually involves. But today, we want to encourage you to choose granite counter tops.

Here are three reasons why granite counter tops are a great choice for kitchens everywhere.

1) Durable - Granite Countertops are one of the best types of countertops for any home. The abuse from children, heat or other elements found in the kitchen or bathroom will not be able to harm your granite countertops. 2) Uniqueness - Granite Countertops can easily update or freshen the look of any home. Each granite countertop slab is unlike the next. Although there are many granite slabs of the same granite color -- slab color can still vary in pattern, lightness or darkness of color, or veining. Your granite countertops will be unique to your home, easily matching your decor and being the envy of your guests.

3) Affordable - With us, we are not just a granite countertop installer -- we import, distribute, custom fabricate and install the granite countertops for your kitchen. This entire process cuts out any middle man or subcontractor, allowing us to give you the most discounts on your granite countertops. Granite Countertops used to cost many thousand dollars for just one simple kitchen remodel, but as the times have changed, the average granite countertops kitchen costs around or under $2000.

On top of that, we at Bayes, have made it so that these great counter tops are incredibly easy to clean! Green Family Living: How To Get The Kids Involved!

Green Family Living: How To Get The Kids Involved! We all want to work together to save the environment but how do we get the kids involved? Being green is a family affair and works better when everyone contributes.  But it can be overwhelming when you don't know where to start! We know all about green family living, so we'd like to give you a few ideas on how to get the kids involved!

Reduce, reuse, recycle:  Teach your children to limit waste by getting them reusable lunch boxes and snack storage containers, how to reuse plastic bags, and show them how to separate recyclable items.  Also, bring a reusable shopping bag when you take them shopping with you and ignite their creativity by asking them for ideas about how to reuse old items. Teach kids to turn off lights when they leave the room and to turn the water off while they are brushing their teeth.
Plant a garden: It doesn’t have to be a major yard remodel; you can start small by planting veggies seeds, flowers, or herbs in pots- any of which kids will beam with pride as they watch them grow.  Let kids dig in the dirt and experience all the fun things the nature has to offer.
Get outside: Take kids for a walk in nature and talk about everything you see, and how important it is that we take care of the environment.   Let them explore the beauty of nature with a hike by a stream, creek, or flowering trees.
Go to the farmer’s market: This is a double bonus as you may also get kids to eat more veggies by letting them pick out what foods they’d like to try.  You can explain along the way that the vendors are local farmers, the food available is grown close to their house, and every produce item there has a particular season for growing and cultivating.
Volunteer together: Is there a local beach or park clean up available? A  neighborhood recycling drive? It’s a fun family activity to do together while teaching children the importance of giving back. You can also check out opportunities to volunteer with Habitat For Humanity; a non-profit that helps build homes for families.
Read books together about the environment:  There are several children’s books out that talk about the environment, and are great to read together.  Some books to choose from could be:
The Trouble With Dragons by Debi Gliori
Hey! What’s That Nasty Whiff? By Julie Jarman and Garry Parsons
The Wombles to The Rescue by Elizabeth Beresford
The Lorac by Dr. Seuss
Get rid of clutter: If you’re still overwhelmed with a mess of a holiday or birthday presents, decide on a day to get rid of old toys, clothes, and other clutter lying around the house.  Take the items to a donation center together or have a garage sale.  Explain to your children the importance of only buying things you actually need.
You Be the Example: The “do as I say, not as I do” doesn’t really fly if you want your kids to pick up healthy behaviors.  They are watching you, so lead by example adhering to green habits yourself!  It will be fun when you all do it together!

Being green together is the best way to make for a better future! We are dedicated to creating a cleaner future for the world, which is why we at Bayes, created our line of organic cleaning supplies!  Please stop by and let us be apart of your green world!
