How to Care for Your Granite Counter Tops Without Ruining Them.

How to Care for Your Granite Counter Tops Without Ruining Them.Granite countertops are for the wise quality seekers. You shop around for well
made products that serve you well and are going to last. The last thing you want to do is invest your well earned money into a great product like granite counter tops, and ruin them because you’re using the wrong cleaning products on them.

Standard cleaning products contain harsh and abrasive ingredients, including bleach. Bleach will sometimes say that it’s safe for properly sealed countertops, but that’s debatable. It is acidic and will break down the sealant over time. Also, if there is a break in the seal somewhere, the bleach can make it’s way into the compromised spot and corrode the makings of the granite.

Additionally, using harsh or abrasive chemicals is often a violation to the granite company’s warranty, meaning your mistake could really end up costing you in the end.

How to Care for Your Granite Counter Tops Without Ruining Them.So now it’s clear, don’t use harsh or abrasive cleaners and sponges. Windex, acidic cleaners like vinegar, lemon, lime, or anything with ammonia or bleach. Frequent use of these chemicals will dull and weaken the sealant over time. Basically, the harsher the cleaner, the quicker it will break down the sealant.

Make sure your granite countertop is sealed. While granite is a very hard surface and less porous than marble, unsealed or weakly sealed granite will soak up oils, spills, and stains. To check whether your granite is sealed, leave a few drops of water on the surface. If it beads up, you have a secure seal. If after a few minutes the water has soaked into the granite, then it’s time to reseal the stone.
Wipe up spills as soon as you notice them, preferably with a gentle and soft fibered pad or towel, with warm water and a mild or gentle dish soap.
All that’s needed to keep your counters clean and cared for?

That’s really all!

Granite and natural stone countertops have become the mark of a luxurious modern home but proper care is vital for preserving the original look of your wise investment.

Granite countertops are known for their attractive appearance and durability so it’s no wonder they seem to be making their way into homes and buildings all over the world.

Don't Miss This! Quick Money Saving Tips to a Greener Kitchen!

Don't Miss This! Quick Money Saving Tips to a Greener Kitchen! We all love being in the kitchen, mainly because that's where the food is! But did you know that the kitchen is one of the easiest rooms in the house to 'go green' and save money? If you've been wanting to have a more energy efficient and earth friendly home, the kitchen is a great place to start!

One of the reasons that it's so easy to make an impactful difference on the overall energy-efficiency of your kitchen is that some of your home's largest appliances are located there. Here are a few quick tips to help you know you're getting the most out your kitchen appliances and being earth conscious in the process!

Dishwasher:

First, make sure that you only run the dishwasher when it's full. If you've only got one plate or a few forks in there, it's most likely going to save more water to wash those by hand. Secondly, don't pre-rinse your dishes in the sink. This step was necessary in the past but most modern dishwashers are powerful enough that they can remove food residue without pre-rinsing, so skipping this step will save you a lot of water and energy (not to mention time!).

Refrigerator:

Even if you went out of the way to purchase an energy-efficient fridge, you might be sabotaging your decision by not using it properly. One common mistake is setting the temperature too low. You can check your owner's manual to determine the optimal temperature range (usually around 36°-38°F), but if you notice that some of your food is super cold or even frozen, you should turn your temp down a bit or reserve those "cold zones" for more spoilage-prone foods. Remember that for every degree below 38°F, your unit consumes 5% more energy; so if you have it set to 36°F now and it's too cold, consider raising it a few degrees. Another easy tip is to use glass tupperware. Glass is not only more long-lasting than plastic or foil, but it also provides a better insulating barrier that keeps food and beverages colder.

Compost:

One of the best ways you can transform your edible waste into valuable soil is by composting it. Composting does take some time and patience but there are many products out there to simplify the process. If you're planning to compost indoors, try an odor-minimizing, compact composter. Once you have the hang of it, you may even be able to use the resulting nutrient-rich soil to grow your own food, which will help make your kitchen and cooking even greener.

Green Cleaners:
Using organic and biodegradable cleaning supplies in the kitchen keeps our water sources clean and our health as well. We are in the kitchen so often. It's important that we avoid chemicals in general, but especially where we are preparing our food. That's why at Bayes, we've developed a line of organic cleaning supplies - including our granite counter top cleaner. You have the benefit of clean granite counter tops as well as knowing your family won't get any chemicals on those freshly chopped apple slices!  For bigger messes, you can always use the simplicity of baking soda and white vinegar!

There are always great and easy options when wanting to have a greener and affordable kitchen and home. Bayes wants to help you live clean and healthy in every way we can. Please visit us today for more information!

Don't Miss These Little Cleaning Tips that Make a Big Difference in Your Family's Health!

Don't Miss These Little Cleaning Tips that Make a Big Difference in Your Family's Health! Is it hard to keep your house clean? Different factors like pets, children and busy lives can make house cleaning a challenge. But a dirty house is a breeding ground for germs and irritants. So let's take a preemptive strike and stay one step ahead of the game. Enjoy the info below and get the family on board.

Little Cleaning Tips that Make a Big Difference in Your Family's Health!

Non-Toxic Products
Educate yourself and your family about the dangerous and safe ingredients. This is a great point to start with, because the toxic chemicals we clean with are such irritants to our health. They create allergies and aggravate them, compromise our sinus and respiratory system, while weakening our immune systems all together. (Ever notice the rise in how common it is for children to be congested?) As the safety and environmental impacts of conventional cleaning products become more thoroughly understood, more and more brands of healthy, green, and effective cleaning products have started hitting the market and competing for that coveted place of honor under your sink. Many of these products are non-toxic, biodegradable, and made from renewable resources (not petroleum).  Bayes knows the importance of this, which is why we do what we do!

Cleaner the Air in Your Home
It's surprisingly common to find that the air inside the home is more toxic than the air outside. It's because the toxins and substances that insulate homes (which is a good thing) are strong and being off gassed on a general basis. Keeping windows open as often as possible allows fresh air in and keeps toxins flowing out. This is especially important when cleaning your home.

Clean the Air Naturally
Skip the store-bought air fresheners and instead try boiling cinnamon, cloves, or any other herbs you have a fondness for. Fresh chocolate chip cookies also have been known to create a friendly aroma. Also, plants may not make your house smell different but are good for filtering interior air--pretty much any broad green leaf plant will do. Peace Lilies are a favorite choice.

Keep the Shoes Off
Imagine what's on your shoes at the end of the day. Everything from car oil, antifreeze, animal waste, pollution, pollen, (and who knows what else) into the house is especially common for kids and other critters that spend time on floor level. Keep the sidewalk out of your home with a good doormat and a shoeless house policy. Many green buildings now include entryway track-off systems as a means of maintaining a healthy interior environment. Less dirt also means less sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming, which means less work, water, energy, and fewer chemicals. You can do it!

Bayes decided to go into business out of a desire to meet the need that so many people are asking to be filled.  Our cleaning products are organic, non-toxic and gentle on the spaces in your homes. We encourage you to make small steps to big change in your home as you make your cleaning routine more green.

Consider This Before Installing Granite Counter Tops!

Consider This Before Installing Granite Counter Tops!
You deserve a stone counter top that creates the most luxury for your bathroom remodel.
Did you know that granite counter tops are the number one choice for high end bathroom remodels and kitchens too! It's no wonder really. Granite delivers a luxurious look with it's rick speckling and crystalline grain texture. It's also a versatile option that compliments all decor from contemporary.
Here's what you'll want to consider before diving in:
Measurements: Countertop thickness varies by geographic location from three-quarter inch to an inch and a quarter (preferred). Standard overhang is an inch to an inch and a half. A range of edge treatments is available, including straight, beveled and rounded.
Color: Granite comes in a wide range of colors, including gold, blue, brown, green, violet, black and white.
Finish: Choose from a few finish options. Polished granite is sleek and shiny. A honed or matte surface is less glossy and a little more porous. A leather finish offers unique texturing reminiscent of leather.
Slab or tile: Unbroken expanses of granite lend a luxurious look and exude contemporary flair. Granite tiles offer the same surface beauty at a lower cost and with simpler installation.
Practicality: Polished surfaces in dark colors can show watermarks and fingerprints. Granite is virtually nonporous, so water won't cause damage.
Sink types: Options include drop-in, undermount and vessel styles.
Budget Considerations: Beautiful granite can be a pricey countertop option. And if you're choosing granite slab, unlike tiles, you can't just buy what you need—you need to purchase the whole thing. A professional will then cut it and install it carefully.
Care: Care for granite counter tops can be so simple and pure, especially with an organic granite counter top cleaner. You'll want to both be able to clean and condition the counter tops regularly and the Bayes cleaner does it all!
Granite counter tops are the perfect choice for any kitchen or bathroom, big or small and Bayes has you covered for care!

Why Organic Green Cleaning is Better for Your and Your Health

Why Organic Green Cleaning is Better for Your and Your HealthOrganic cleaning is all the buzz right now, but do you know why?  We know the information can be confusing, so we have gathered what you need to know to make the best decision possible for your home and family.

Traditionally, green cleaning is defined as the process by which organic products—which are those made with ingredients that are not harmful to humans or the environment—are used to clean the home, office, or other areas. While green cleaning can include the purchase of commercially developed items, it can also include natural food based products that you make by yourself, that have been found to be effective at cleaning surfaces or removing stains. There has been a recent spike of interest lately in organic living, causing the commitment to “green cleaning” to dramatically increase in popularity. In fact, some experts suggest that up to half of the US population use some form of green cleaning technology on a regular basis.
Organic green cleaning is better for you and your health. Here's why:

The Benefits of Green Cleaning

The benefits associated with green cleaning are numerous and varied. Specifically, green cleaning products have been found not only to be safe for individuals who use them on a daily basis, but also for the environment in which they are often released. In addition, green cleaning products can often be a cost-effective alternative to more expensive, traditional products. Finally, unlike some other products, green cleaning items are often multi-purpose, and can be used for a number of functions around the home or office.

Why Organic Green Cleaning is Better for Your and Your HealthThe Toxic Chemical Dangers Associated with Cleaning Agents that aren't Organic

Just as there are a number of benefits associated with the use of organic cleaning agents, there are several risks linked to those which are not organic. For example, a significant amount of clinical research has found that the use of non-organic chemicals can lead to dramatic increases in the instances of cancer in both men and women in the United States. In addition, the use of these products can also increase the rates of allergic reactions and decrease immunity to these antigens. As more research into the field of non-organic cleaning products is done, further health links may be identified.

The Affordability of Organic Cleaners and Their Multi-Purpose Usage

In addition to offering decreased rates of toxin exposure, organic cleaners can also be quite cost effective. This is especially true for multi-purpose cleaners, which may serve two functions simultaneously. For example, baking soda can not only be effective at cleaning the inside of a washing machine, but may also increase the effectiveness of laundry detergents. In addition, vinegar and lemon juice can often clean and disinfect dirty surfaces at the same time.
Organic cleaning products are easier to find these days and the choices can remain daunting. So we've made it very simple for you by providing an extensive line of organic cleaning supplies made with only the best ingredients. Our featured item - one that has no real competitor - is our organic granite counter top cleaner! With natural conditioning agents, our cleaner will not only clean but restore and protect your beautiful granite counter tops!

Simple and Fast Ways to Have a Green Life and Home

Simple and Fast Ways to Have a Green Life and HomeDon't be intimidated by all the information on green living! You can incorporate these simple and fast ways to have a green life and home into your daily routine and rest assured knowing you are improving yours and the lives around you!

Recycling

Recycling in the home starts with finding out where you can take old newspapers and cardboard in your community to get it processed into new products. Many communities have recycling programs that make it easy for residents to put their old paper and cardboard to good use. If your community does not have an official paper recycling program, then check with a local church or civic group to see if they are running one. You can also recycle old plastic and glass food containers or reuse them by washing them out and using them as storage containers around the house. Before you throw anything out in your home, make sure that you cannot find another use for it and reduce the amount of garbage that goes into your local landfill.

Simple and Fast Ways to Have a Green Life and HomeComposting

Most people throw out old food and scraps from the table and never give it a second thought. But when you have a composting system in your backyard, you can turn those old food scraps into fertilizer or even a material that can help repair damaged parts of your lawn. You can also include lawn clippings and leaves in your composting system to create a comprehensive source of organic material. You can create a compost pile in your backyard, or you can invest in a more advanced composting system that will create the materials you need for your lawn and garden.

Water Conservation

In some parts of the world, there are water conservation laws that dictate how residents of those areas can use water. But everyone should be conscious of water conservation and preserve the water we have. Instead of allowing rainwater to flow into the ground, you can develop a rainwater collection system and use it to water your garden or your lawn. This saves you money by allowing you to water your landscaping without using your house spigot. You can save the dishwater from when you do the dishes and use that to water the lawn or clean up accessories around the home. Conserve water and you will save money and help your community.

Energy Conservation

There are many things you can do to conserve energy in your home. Always be sure to turn off lights and appliances when they are not in use. Invest in new doors and windows when the old ones have become drafty and unable to help regulate the temperature of your home. If your home appliances are 10 years old or older, then replace them with more energy-efficient models. You may also want to think about adding alternative energy sources such as solar panels and windmills. An extreme measure is purchasing an electric car and charging station. These alternative energy sources will reduce your reliance on electricity that is generated using fossil fuels, and it will also help to lower your monthly energy bills.

Cleaning Supplies

Sometimes being green at home is not about saving money. Sometimes it is about using supplies that are safe for the environment and safe for the family. For example, home cleaning supplies that use harsh chemicals can get into the water table around your home and contaminate your property. Those harsh cleaning supplies can also leave behind a residue that can get on the hands of your children and possibly cause disease. Instead of using those harsh cleaning chemicals, you should use more environmentally friendly cleaning solutions. There are many different kinds of cleaning solutions you can make from household items that have no dangerous chemicals at all. By learning to make our own safe cleaning solutions at home, you are teaching your children a skill that they can use when they grow up to save the environment and keep their children safe as well.

This is where Bayes comes in.  We know that you have a lot of options for better green living, and we want to make sure it's as simple as possible. This is why we developed our line of organic cleaning products. We want you and your home to be as healthy as possible. Stop by today and see what we have made for you!
