It’s Easy to Go Green! Here Are Some Family Friendly Tips!

It’s Easy to Go Green! Here Are Some Family Friendly Tips! Organic isn’t just a buzzword or hype, it’s a way of life that benefits the health of your family, your home and the environment as well. Let 2016 be the year you make small changes that make a big difference! It’s not hard, it just takes a shift in perspective and a few new habits.

At Bayes, we want to keep life easy for you without compromising quality. So here are some easy to do, family friendly green living tips just for you!

Conserve Water
Start simple. Start with conservation. No matter where you are in the world, it’s good to be conscious of water conservation and preserve the water we have. Instead of allowing rainwater to flow into the ground, you can develop a rainwater collection system and use it to water your garden or your lawn. This saves you money by allowing you to water your landscaping without using your house spigot. You can save the dishwater from when you do the dishes and use that to water the lawn or clean up accessories around the home. Conserve water and you will save money and help your community.

Save Energy (Save Money Too!)
There are many things you can do to conserve energy in your home. Always be sure to turn off lights and appliances when they are not in use. Invest in new doors and windows when the old ones have become drafty and unable to help regulate the temperature of your home. If your home appliances are 10 years old or older, then replace them with more energy-efficient models. You may also want to think about adding alternative energy sources such as solar panels and windmills. An extreme measure is purchasing an electric car and charging station. These alternative energy sources will reduce your reliance on electricity that is generated using fossil fuels, and it will also help to lower your monthly energy bills.

Compost Your Food Waste

Turn those old food scraps into fertilizer or even a material that can help repair damaged parts of your lawn. You can also include lawn clippings and leaves in your composting system to create a comprehensive source of organic material. You can create a compost pile in your backyard, or you can invest in a more advanced composting system that will create the materials you need for your lawn and garden. More info on composting HERE.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Whether you are reusing items in your home, using paper as wrapping paper, recycling can happen in many ways! Recycling in the home starts with finding out where you can take old newspapers and cardboard in your community to get it processed into new products. Many communities have recycling programs that make it easy for residents to put their old paper and cardboard to good use. If your community does not have an official paper recycling program, then check with a local church or civic group to see if they are running one. You can also recycle old plastic and glass food containers or reuse them by washing them out and using them as storage containers around the house. Before you throw anything out in your home, make sure that you cannot find another use for it and reduce the amount of garbage that goes into your local landfill.

Green Cleaning

Cleaning green is about using supplies that are safe for the environment and safe for the family. Home cleaning supplies that use harsh chemicals can get into the water table around your home and contaminate your property, that damage your health and home. Instead of using those harsh cleaning chemicals, you should use more environmentally friendly cleaning solutions. There are many different kinds of cleaning solutions you can make from household items that have no dangerous chemicals at all. By learning to make our own safe cleaning solutions at home, you are teaching your children a skill that they can use when they grow up to save the environment and keep their children safe as well.

This is where Bayes comes in.  We know that you have a lot of options for better green living, and we want to make sure it's as simple as possible. This is why we developed our line of organic cleaning products. We want you and your home to be as healthy as possible. Stop by today and see what we have made for you!

Want to Be More Environmentally Friendly? Here are Some Easy Ways to Get Started!

Want to Be More Environmentally Friendly? Here are Some Easy Ways to Get Started! Our earth isn’t indestructible and we all want to do our part to take care of it, but that can be overwhelming. Well don’t throw it all out completely! There are many small steps you can take to get yourself into a healthier cycle of earth, home and self care, for the good of all!

At Bayes, we are are committed to green living and are happy to share these easy tips for more environmentally friendly living!

Recycle

Recycling in the home starts with finding out where you can take old newspapers and cardboard in your community to get it processed into new products. You can also recycle old plastic and glass food containers or reuse them by washing them out and using them as storage containers around the house. Before you throw anything out in your home, make sure that you cannot find another use for it and reduce the amount of garbage that goes into your local landfill.
Compost

Good news! Food can be recycled too! Most people throw out old food and scraps from the table and never give it a second thought. But when you compost, you’re able to turn those old food scraps into fertilizer or even a material that can help repair damaged parts of your lawn. You can also include lawn clippings and leaves in your composting system to create a comprehensive source of organic material. You can create a compost pile in your backyard, or you can invest in a more advanced composting system that will create the materials you need for your lawn and garden. If nothing else, talk to your local gardens or plant nurseries for their recommendations.

Conserve water.

In some parts of the world, there are water conservation laws that dictate how residents of those areas can use water. But everyone should be conscious of water conservation and preserve the water we have. Instead of allowing rainwater to flow into the ground, you can develop a rainwater collection system and use it to water your garden or your lawn.
Clean Green.
Sometimes being green at home is not about saving money. Sometimes it is about using supplies that are safe for the environment and safe for the family. For example, home cleaning supplies that use harsh chemicals can get into the water table around your home and contaminate your property. Those harsh cleaning supplies can also leave behind a residue that can get on the hands of your children and possibly cause disease.

At Bayes, we know living green can be a big change for many. That’s why we recommend it be done step by step. One easy step we stand behind is our line of organic cleaning products, made biodegradable and family health friendly. We are dedicated to your health and the health of the planet. Quick Tips to Conquering Ants in the Kitchen - All Natural and Effective!

Quick Tips to Conquering Ants in the Kitchen - All Natural and Effective!Ants seem to be a problem in many homes and summer seems to be the worst. The ants are just as excited about the warmer weather, are looking to find any crumb possible and are bringing their friends. But there’s nothing more frustrating than waking up or coming home to an ant invasion in the kitchen!  You are ready to bomb the house of any possibility of the pests returning. However, those chemicals that kill and repel them are also dangerous for your own health. At Bayes, we know that and we want to share with you our top quick tips to conquering ants in your kitchen that are natural, organic and effective!

First of all, it’s important to know that ants are only able to navigate their way to food using the sense of smell in their antennae. Use strong smells to confuse their inner compass and they won’t be able to find their way to you so easily!

Cinnamon and Garlic. Place cinnamon sticks or garlic at their points of entry; this will take some investigating, but usually they enter at window tracks, by doors, sometimes floor vents and in corners around your home. It’s true that garlic cloves aren’t as aromatically pleasing as cinnamon sticks, they work really well. Just peel and slice a few cloves and place them where you notice the ants.

Clove and Peppermint/Rosemary.  Similar to the above. Get essential oils of clove and peppermint or rosemary, depending on the combination you prefer. Place about 20 drops of each in a spray bottle with just a little fractionated coconut oil and then about 6 TBSP of water. Shake and spray at points of entry. Alternatively, place a few drops of each oil near entry points for extra measure.

Black Pepper. Sprinkle black pepper where you see ants. The ants will immediately scatter. Pay attention to where they run; chances are they will be exiting your house and you’ll be able to treat the entry area with pepper too.

Remember to avoid the possibility of ants. Keep your kitchen clean and keep all food scraps and wrappers rinsed and in their proper containers immediately. Rinse dishes as soon as they are dirty and make sure to sweep up any crumbs as soon as you notice them or are done in the kitchen.

Over the Counter Cleaning Products or Organic? Does It Matter?

Over the Counter Cleaning Products or Organic? Does It Matter? Why use organic cleaners when the regular stuff works just fine and is cheaper? That's a question we hear so often and one that's so easily answered.

You and your family matter. That's why. The toxins in over the counter cleaning products are damaging not only to our home and surfaces, but also to our skin and respiratory systems. Everything that touches our skin, absorbs into it in varying degrees. Anything oil based absorbs deeper and faster. As a society, we are already bombarded with chemicals that are hard to avoid, such as chlorine in pools, deet in sunscreen and harsh chemicals in commercial hand sanitizers. Of course most of those OTC products have natural alternatives, and we are honored to do our part in providing the natural alternative to toxic home cleaning products.

Thanks to Dr. Mercola, Here is a list of the toxic ingredients found in common cleaning supplies and the side effects they inflict on you and your family, without you even knowing it:

Some of the ingredients in common household cleaners and laundry detergents that can create a toxic indoor environment include:
  • Glycol ethers – Widespread use in paints, perfumes, soaps, cosmetics and foods. Cause fatigue, lethargy, nausea, and possible liver and kidney damage.
  • Phthalates – Cause reproductive harm, endocrine disruption, cancer, organ damage.
  • Perfumes – Cause headaches, sinus problems, asthma, may cause intoxication and "addiction."
  • Phosphates - Manufacturers have reduced eliminated phosphates from laundry products, but no action has ever been taken on dishwasher detergents. Causes widespread environmental damage.
  • Nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs), a common ingredient in laundry detergents and all-purpose cleaners, is banned in Europe, and known to be a potent endocrine disrupter. It's already thought to be the cause of male fish transforming into females in waterways around the world!
  • Formaldehyde, found in spray and wick deodorizers, is a suspected carcinogen.
  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including 1,4-dichlorobenzene – Cause nose and throat irritation, dizziness, asthma.
  • Petroleum solvents in floor cleaners may damage mucous membranes.
  • Butyl cellosolve, found in many all-purpose and window cleaners. May damage your kidneys, bone marrow, liver and nervous system.
  • Ammonia – irritating to the skin, eyes and lungs.
  • Chlorine – irritating to the skin, eyes and lungs.
  • Ethanolamines – irritating to the skin, eyes and lungs.
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - skin irritant, eye irritant, potential cancer causer.

That's a lot of potential damage that's easily avoided when you're willing to upgrade to higher and safer quality.  We at Bayes, knew this was a problem and decided to dedicate ourselves to creating and providing solutions.

Our line of cleaning products are non-toxic, organic and safe for every member of your family; even the furry ones.  Additionally, our products are biodegradable, non-abrasive and are never tested on animals. Several of our products have been approved by the EPA. And you can feel great knowing you are doing your share for a healthier planet.

Don't just read it here, see for yourself! Go to Bayes.com and look through our many products. They're more affordable than you may think and make a world of difference for you and the people around you!

Does organic really make a difference? You bet it does.

Save Money and Lower Energy Use in the Kitchen with These Tips!

Save Money and Lower Energy Use in the Kitchen with These Tips!
We spend a lot of time in our kitchens but that doesn't mean we should be spending more money or using more energy! At Bayes, we value the health of your home and the earth, which is why we developed a line of organic cleaning products at an affordable price with ingredients you can trust. But we know it doesn't stop there.
The truth is, everyday kitchen tasks may be causing you to use unnecessary amounts of energy and causing your household to have a higher power bill, not to mention sucking valuable energy away from you that would be better spent on things that you enjoy! But by taking a few precautions and following a few steps, you can help save energy and money in the kitchen.
Save Money and Lower Energy Use in the Kitchen with These Tips!Save Energy while cooking: There are several simple ways to save energy every month in your kitchen by simply changing a few cooking habits and techniques. One easy tip is to always cover your pots and pans when cooking, preventing heat from escaping. This also cuts down on the amount of time you will be using the stove. Another great tip is to turn off the stove just before your food is ready, letting the heat that is already in the pan continue to cook for the last few minutes. The pan will stay hot for some time even though the stove has been turned off, resulting in a simple energy saver.
Purchase energy efficient appliances: Another tip to save energy in the kitchen is to find very energy efficient dishwashers or refrigerators when it’s time for a replacement. Refrigerator models that have moisture control are very helpful for saving a large amount of money on your electricity bill.
Set the faucet to cold water: A good habit to be in is to keep your faucet running cold water at all times when hot water is not needed. If you don’t need too much water for a quick clean or for any other small uses, stick to using cold water. Even if you turn the hot water on for a few seconds, energy is still being used to heat the water.
Tend to your refrigerator's seal and temperature: Many refrigerators are set to a colder temperature than is really necessary. This can lead to excessive amounts of energy being wasted. The ideal temperature to set your refrigerator to is between 37 and 40 degrees, and your freezer should be kept at around 0 degrees. If you keep your freezer packed, many times it may not be shut as airtight as it could be otherwise. It is always best to pack your refrigerator or freezer with a little bit of extra space instead of packing it tight to make sure it can be shut all the way.
Plan ahead: Here's a tip to save your sanity. If you are going to be making a pasta dinner or a casserole, why not make a large amount and refrigerate or freeze the extra portions? This way, you are getting most bang for your buck by running your oven. Also, for lunch the next day you can reheat the dinner in the microwave instead of cooking something new in your oven or on your stove.
Invest well: Be sure you always stock your kitchen with quality products and avoid the cheap stuff. Just like with Bayes organic cleaning supplies, you know your kitchen will not only be cleaned, but also maintained and preserved. When investing in home cleaning products, always make sure they are adding to the life of your home - not just meeting a short term need!
Knowing these helpful tips is a great way to not only conserve energy but also save a little bit of money when it comes to your bills. Bayes knows the importance of keeping a clean, green kitchen. We hope to find ourselves in your kitchen soon!

The Golden Do's and Don'ts Of Granite Counter Top Cleaning That Shouldn't Be Missed

The Golden Do's and Don'ts Of Granite Counter Top Cleaning That Shouldn't Be MissedPlease do not be one of those people that invests your time and hard earned money into a beautiful kitchen, just to destroy it, for not knowing how to properly care for it. You're kitchen (and investment) deserves better.

You deserve to have the knowledge and tools needed to care for the kitchen you dreamed of for so long and now finally have!

If you decided to finally get those granite counter tops for your kitchen, you're going to want to know some clear do's and don'ts.... don't you think?

The Dos and Don'ts of Cleaning Granite

DO: Make sure your granite countertop is sealed. While granite is a very hard surface and less porous than marble, unsealed or weakly sealed granite will soak up oils, spills, and stains. To check whether your granite is sealed, leave a few drops of water on the surface. If it beads up, you have a secure seal. If after a few minutes the water has soaked into the granite, then it's time to reseal the stone.
DON'T: Use harsh or abrasive cleaners and sponges, Windex, acidic cleaners like vinegar, lemon, lime, or anything with ammonia or bleach. Frequent use of these chemicals will dull and weaken the sealant over time. Basically, the harsher the cleaner, the quicker it will break down the sealant.
DO: Wipe up spills as soon as you notice them.
DO: Use warm water, a mild or gentle dish soap, and a nubby washcloth or microfiber cloth for daily wipedowns.

What You Need

Dish cloth
Clean microfiber cloth or terrycloth towel
(that's all!)
